The Cayman Islands Insurance Association (CIIA) does not have a formal process for receiving or investigating complaints against individual insurers or insurance brokerages.
As a first step, we recommend that policyholders utilize the formal complaints process of their insurer and/or their insurance agent or broker. This provides the company with the opportunity to investigate the matter and work towards a satisfactory resolution.
If you are unable to reach a satisfactory outcome through that process, you should then escalate your complaint to the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), which is the regulator responsible for overseeing the insurance industry and handling complaints relating to market conduct.
The CIIA meets regularly with CIMA, and the Authority shares general observations and trends relating to market conduct with the Association. This allows the industry to learn from common issues and encourages members to continuously improve customer service, business practices, and overall industry standards. Individual complaints and their outcomes remain a matter for CIMA and the regulated entity involved.
